On April 28, 2013 the sixth graders were engaged in Mitzvah projects at three different sites:

The Montefiore Home, where students visited the Jewish home for the elderly, met with individual residents for conversation and played games.
The Hebrew Cultural Garden, where students learned more about the famous garden and helped clean up for spring, including weeding and moving leaves (weather permitting). If you don't know anything about this very interesting site, here is a little information:

The Hebrew Garden was designed by T. Ashburton Tripp and was the first garden in what was to become the Cultural Gardens. Dedicated in 1926, it is a monument to the Zionist movement, as well as the vision of Leo Weidenthal, who was instrumental in the founding of the Cultural Gardens chain, or Poets' Corners as he originally named it. The Garden is laid out with the sandstone walk forming a Star or Shield of David, six pointed star, around the Wisdom fountain which echoes the star with six sides and points. To the right or north is a rock garden or poets' corner. To the left a lyre or harp shaped Musicians area. More information on the Garden at: http://www.culturalgardens.org/gardenDetail.aspx?gardenID=17

Friendship Circle, where our students helped set up for a city-wide program called "J-Serve" for students in grades 8-12. J-Serve offers a wide variety of mitzvah activities-from visiting homes for the aged, to decorating the Friendship Circle building, to working on an organic farm, to doing activities with disabled children. Our sixth grade students will prepare these projects for them, participating in the presentation of all of these Jewish Values. Friendship Circle brings together teen volunteers and special needs children for shared experiences.
