Dr. Katya Oicherman

Katya is a curator, researcher, artist and educator, focusing on Jewish material culture, as well as historical and contemporary textiles. Her PhD thesis from Goldsmiths University of London, addresses 19th century German Jewish Torah binders (wimples), imbuing these historical textiles with contemporary relevance through creative research.

Prior to joining The Temple Museum, she was a resident artist-curator at the Minnesota Museum of American Art in St. Paul, a teaching artist at the St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Arts, and the chair of the Textile Design Department at Shenkar College of Engineering, Design, and Art in Israel. She is the recipient of research grants and fellowships from the memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture (NY), the Pasold Fund in textile history (UK), the Minnesota Historical Society, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation (NY), and Winterthur Museum (DE) among others.
