Wherever or whenever the veteran served, in whatever branch, or maybe in the Red Cross or the USO, sharing stories and materials helps us build the Veterans History Project, learn more about our community, and expand our understanding of our congregation’s history.

Arthur Szyk Memorial Windows
On Friday, December 14, 2018 during our 6:00 PM Kabbalat Shabbat service, we celebrated the 71st Anniversary of the dedication of our magnificent windows designed by Arthur Szyk. These windows were commissioned by Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver to recognize and honor the 776 men and women of The Temple who had served in the United States Armed Forces in World War II, and to memorialize the 22 congregants who gave their lives in defense of our nation.
The 12 memorial windows are inscribed with the 22 names of The Temple men who gave their lives in WWII. The three windows created for the War Service Alcove at University Circle represent three Jewish warriors and heroes, Gideon, Samson and Judah Maccabee.
Originally created for our building at University Circle in 1947, the magnificent memorial windows now are here and remind us of the brave Temple members who served our country. On this very meaningful occasion we invited our Temple family to join us as we honor and recognize our WWII Veterans and their families during this special service.
